New Purite heat sanitised water purification system is first to meet latest decontamination guidelines

An innovative new water purification system from Purite, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of high performance water treatment equipment, has been launched to help reduce the cost and complexity of meeting the latest guidelines for Sterile Service and Decontamination departments.  Called the Integra E+, the new system is the first of its kind to offer an integrated heat sanitisation capability and proven reverse osmosis technology, linked to sophisticated data logging and control mechanisms, in a single compact unit.

Systems that can be heat sanitised are increasingly required to meet ever more stringent guidelines for water quality in healthcare facilities.  Until recently, however, heat sanitisable reverse osmosis systems have generally needed external heat generation and exchange mechanisms, constructed from separate units from different suppliers, making each system potentially more complex and space consuming.

By comparison, the new Integra E+ is a fully integrated system, with functions being contained in a single unit that is easy to install and operate.  All that is required is connection to a softened potable water supply, a single three phase electrical outlet, distribution ringmain and waste water drain.

Water purification is achieved using spirally wound reverse osmosis membranes, fed via an internal raw water break tank with type AB air gap to eliminate potential problems with backflow and comply with water byelaws.  In addition, the Integra E+ features an internal 225 litre, fully drainable stainless steel pure water storage tank to ensure that purified water is available on demand.

Heat sanitisation is carried out using either automatic or manual programmes, which raise water temperatures to 85ºC within both the purified water storage tank and all distribution pipework connected directly to the Integra E+.  This is sufficient to kill most water-borne bacteria and has the added advantage of reducing the need to add potentially hazardous and expensive cleaning chemicals.

The Integra E+ also features an integrated data logging system, enabling users to capture and store up to 12 month’s of operating parameters, including flow, pressure, temperature and alarm conditions.  The stored database can be downloaded to a laptop or PC workstation using a conventional data link and viewed Purite’s PureView Windows™ compatible software.   The software allows data to be manipulated and exported using standard file formats.  It also makes it possible to identify performance trends quickly, which can be used to monitor the system and develop preventative maintenance and validation schedules, reducing operating costs and minimising downtime.

The Integra E+ has a small footprint of just 1.0m x 0.75m and is capable of running at flow rates of up to 3,000l/hour.  As an option, the system can be fitted with an external chiller package to maintain recirculated water temperatures below 20ºC in line with current guidelines.
